NCP march to US Embassy,court arrest against Saddam death sentence
New Delhi, Dec 28 (UNI) Workers of the Nationalist Congress Party, led by its General Secretary Tariq Anwar, today marched to the US Embassy to protest the awarding of the death sentence to former Iraqi president Saddam Hussain by a trial court in Iraq.
Thousands of party workers, led by Mr Anwar and NCP Delhi Pradesh president Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, marched to the US Embassy to demand that the death sentence against Saddam be not carried out and American troops serving in Iraq withdraw from the country immediately.
As the activists marched towards the US Embassy from Bishambar Dass Marg a huge posse of policepersons deployed there prevented them from proceeding towards the Embassy following which Mr Anwar and Mr Bidhuri, alongwith several other NCP workers courted arrest.
The NCP presented a memorandum to the representative of the US Embassy, President A P J Abdul kalam and the representative of the United Nations.
