Future bright with young talents progressing:Vijay asserts

Chennai, Dec 28 (UNI)The future of Indian tennis is bright, indeed, with young talents like Karan Rastogi and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan progressing well, former tennis ace and Davis Cup capatin Vijay Amritraj observed today.

Vijay who is here for the ATP World Tour Chennai Open 2007 to be held at the Nungambakkam stadium from January 1-7, said these players were on the right path getting to play tournaments abroad.

Asked about the progress of his son Prakash, Vijay observed that he was not pushing the lad to improve his ATP rankings but focus on improving his fitness level and all round game.

''ATP rankings are only an yardstick to get into tournaments. I am not pressing him to improve his rankings'', he said.

''Prakash had a good season in the first half in 2006. But a nagging injury forced him to skip some tournaments'', he said.

Prakash was now focussing on his fitness and he wants to be more aggressive, Vijay said.
