Dalit president murder: FFC condemns DMK

Chennai, Dec 28 (UNI) The Fact Finding Committee, constituted to look into the murder of Jaggaiyan, a dalit Village Panchayat President in Tirunelveli District on November 22, today condemned the ruling DMK's failure for not publicly condemning the murder and issuing a stern warning to all castiest forces.

The Fact Finding Committee (FFC) constituted by the Tamil Nadu Federation of Women Presidents of Panchayat (TNFWPP) with its members Ms L Amudha, Ms Vasantha, President Madalakottai Panchayat in Thanjavur District, Ms Anna Lakshmi Coordinator, Law Trust Nagapattinam, Ms Krishnaveni Organiser TNFWPP, Mr Madhusudhanan Coordinator, Human Rights Advocacy and Research Foundation and M Vasudevan and Mr Shanmuganathan, Coordinators of Madurai based NGO SIRD, presented the fact finding report to media persons here.

The Committee pointed out after examining all evidence it came to a conclusion that the murder of Jaggaiyan was committed by Thirupathi Raj and Regina Mary.

They found the District and Police officials made no effort to provide protection to vulnerable dalit panchayat presidents.

No plans were initiated by the state government to provide them with special awareness programmes about their rights.

TNFWPP Convenor Krishnaveni said the FFC also condemned the failure of the opposition AIADMK, Marumalarchi DMK and PMK for not taking any steps to restore faith in dalits and dalit panchayat presidents in Tirunelveli District.

The FFC also recommended the Government to pay Rs five lakhs to the family members to the deceased as compensation besides providing suitable government jobs to two family members of the deceased.
