Cold wave sweeps Rajasthan, one killed

Jaipur, Dec 28 (UNI) Rajasthan is in the throes of an intense cold wave, following snowfall in the northern states and the upper reaches of Himalayas.

The temperatures dipped three to five degrees celsius at several places across the state. Fog and smog cover clouded most places in the state and the accompnaying chill made people shiver.

At 3.4 degrees Celsius, Churu remained the coldest place in the state today. Chilly weather with low visibility made people stay indoors in Churu, Ganganagar, Bikaner and Pilani till 0800 hrs in the morning.

Many flights were delayed by more than an hour due to dense fog. Train service was also effected due to fog.

A railway worker, Gulam Mohammad was killed when he way run over by a train engine owing to low visibility due to dense fog in Bikaner.

According to police, Gulam worked as a keyman on the railway tracks in Bikaner zone.

According to weather department, the cold wave is likely to continue for another two to three days. Further fall in temperatures was also predicted.

Pilani recorded a temperature of 5.2 degrees Celsius Barmer and Bikaner 6.7 degree, Ganganagar 7.7 degrees, Jodhpur 8.3 degrees, Jaisalmer 8.4 degrees Celsius, Udaipur 9.8 degrees and Ajmer 8.7 degrees Celsius.

Jaipur mapped a fall of three degrees Celsius since yesterday.

The temperature today was recorded as 6.4 degrees Celsius.
