16 stations to get world-class facelift by Commonwealth Games

Ferozpur, Dec 28 (UNI) With a massive World Bank grant in its kitty, Railways has decided to modernise 16 Railway stations for the Commonwealth Games to be held in 2010.

''The amenities provided at these station will be at par with that of London, New York and Frankfurt, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Ferozepur Brijesh Dharmani told mediapersons here today.

The stations which will get a swank look include Amritsar, Chandigarh, Pune, Varanasi, Lucknow , Chennai, Thiruvanthapuram, Howrah, Anand Vihar New Delhi, Secunderbad, Patna, Bhulandshahr, Ahmedabad, Mathura, Bijwasan and Bangalore, he said.

Mr Dharmani further informed that elevators and trolleys like those used at Airports would be provided at these stations.

Special stress will be laid on cleanliness and hygeine. Snacks and eatables sold at the stations will be properly packed and covered bins for the disposing waste material will be provided at various points, he added.
