VIPs to get books instead of shawls

Chennai, Dec 27 (UNI) VIPs attending official functions will no longer be presented traditional shawls and garlands. Instead they will be given books to promote the habit of reading.

The Tamil Nadu Government has issued an order to this effect last evening, an official release here said.

The order directed the organisers of official functions to present books to VIPs instead of honouring them with shawls and garlands.

''Those who organised functions through various departments, corporations and government undertakings to highlight the welfare schemes, should henceforth adopt the practice of presenting good books to the VIPs invited for the functions,'' it said.

This would not only promote reading habit but also be appreciated by the book-worms.
