Two black bucks, including pregnant doe, killed in Karnal

Karnal, Dec 27 (UNI) One person was arrested for killing a black buck and a pregnant black doe in Kurlan village of this district, police today said.

SP Sibas Kaviraj said five people had been booked under Section 429 and Act 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty Against Animals.

While one of them, Baljeet Singh had been arrested, three teams had been formed to nab the others, he said.

The poachers, accompanied by hounds, had chased and cornered the deer in a field and then battered them with bamboo sticks yesterday, the SP said.

However, as some alert villagers raised an alarm, the hunters fled leaving the black buck and grievously injured pregnant doe, who later succumbed to her injuries, Mr Kaviraj said.

The postmortem was conducted at the Jaliana veterinary hospital.

The carcasses had signs of being bitten by the hounds along with baton marks.

The woods adjoining Karlan village has about 400 black bucks without substantial protection and were vulnerable to attacks from poachers, villagers said.
