Satara to host Maharashtra Junior cross-country championship

Pune, Dec 27 (UNI) The Maharashtra State Junior Cross-Country championship will be hosted by the Satara District Amateur Athletic Association (SDAAA) from January 19.

Maharashtra Amateur Athletic Association (MAAA) secretary general Pralhad Sawant said the championship, to be competed for junior boys and girls under-14, 16 and 18, assumes importance as it would serve as the barometer to select the state squad to take part in the national junior cross country championship to be held at Visakhapatnam to be held on February 4.

The sub-junior state athletic championship for boys and girls under-8, 10, 12 and 14 would be organised by the Solapur District Athletic Association (SDAAA) from January 27. The two-day meet will also serve as the trial to select the Maharashtra squad for the sub- junior national athletic championship, Mr Sawant said.

Meanwhile, the MAAA has finalised the state team following the conclusion of the senior state cross-country championship held at Nagpur on December 25. The top ten runners from each six categories have been invited to attand the coaching-cum-training camp to be held at Nagpur from January 26.

Noted coach and Dadoji Kondev awardee Bhau Kane will put the trainees through their paces till the departure of the squad for Visakhapatnam, Mr Sawant added.
