PM instructs Central authorities to provide medical care to Mamta

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today instructed Central authorities to extend whatever medical care is required for Trinamool Congress leader Mamta Banerjee who is on an indefinite fast in Kolkata.

The PM's instruction comes because of the deterioration in the health status of Ms Banerjee and her refusal to accept any medical care from the West Bengal state government.

The Eastern Naval Command has been instructed to offer medical care to the fasting leader, a Prime Minister's Office spokesman said.

Ms Banerjee today entered the 23rd day of an indefinite fast in Kolkata to protest the alleged forced acquisition of farmers' land in Singur, West Bengal by the state government for the constuction of a car plant to be set up by Tatas.
