Oppn stages walkout protesting 'unilateral decisions'

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 27 (UNI) The Congress-led opposition staged a walkout in the Kerala Assembly today alleging that the government was taking ''unilateral decision'' on conducting business of the House.

Leading the walkout, Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy said Question Hour was dropped during the three-day special session of the House and the Opposition was not allowed to move even adjournment motions on immediate issues.

Earlier, Speaker K Radhakrishnan refused leave for an adjournment motion sought to be moved by K Sudhakaran (Cong) on the dissolution of the Board of Directors of the Kerala State Cooperative Hospital Complex which runs the Academy of Medical Sciences at Pariyaram in Kannur district.

Opposing the motion, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs M Vijayakumar said discussion on the issue would be subjudice as it was under consideration of the High Court.

Mr Chandy pointed out that there had been precedents of the House discussing issues pending before courts in the past and wanted that Mr Sudhakaran should be allowed to move the motion.
