Non-release of subsidy affecting fertiliser cos: Jha

Kolhapur, Dec 27 (UNI) Fertiliser producing companies are passing through critical phase due to non-release of subsidy by the government, Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers (RCF) Ltd chairman and managing director U S Jha said today.

Addressing a news conference here, Mr Jha said fertiliser subsidy of about Rs 14,000 crore of various companies was pending, resulting in adverse impact on concerned companies' financial position.

The demand for fertilisers continues to grow and the cost of raw materials has been rising, but there is no hike in the price of fertilisers, he said.

He said his company produces superior quality of fertilisers.

Mixing in fertilisers, particularly in urea, could be happening at retail level, he alleged and said the state government has power to look into the matter and initiate action against the guilty.

Mr Jha said RCF is trying to propagate the concept of ''optimum usage of nutrients'' for the increase in farm productivity.

Similarly, the company has undertaken various promotional programmes for the betterment of farmers, he added.
