MSPB submits recommendations on 'year of farmer' to CM
Shillong, Dec 27 (UNI) Meghalaya State Planning Board(MSPB) met Chief Minister J D Rymbai and presented its recommendations to launch the ''Year of the Farmer'' on January 20 next which would continue till January 21, 2008.
MPSB spokesman Aubrey H Scott Lyngdoh said, in its recommendation, that the Board has recommended the government to set up a state Co-ordination Committee to issue policy directions and oversee implementation of various programmes with the Chief Minister as the Chairman.
Mr Lyngdoh said the committee would include Chairman of MSPB, Ministers in-charge Agriculture Horticulture, Irrigation, Soil Conservation, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Community and Rural Development, Fisheries, Sericulture and Weaving and Corporations.
The Agriculture Production Commissioner would be the Member Secretary of the Committee, Mr Lyngdoh said in a press communique issued here today.
The second recommendation was setting up of a Steering Committee to chalk out the details with the Chairman, Mr Lyngdoh said.
He said the year-long programme would focus on improving the livelihood of the farming community, necessitate higher plan allocation coupled with timely sanction, besides meeting seasonal needs, stepping up the flow of credit, improving the marketing structure etc.'' UNI RRK JYN AD DB1352
