More than 30 shops gutted in Imphal market inferno

Imphal, Dec 27 (UNI) More than 30 main shops were gutted in a devastating fire last night at Thangal Bazar and Alu Galli in the main market of Imphal.

The fire, which broke out at midnight, was not under control till today. The entire area had been barricaded.

Fire Brigade officials said the fire had spread as the shops were mainly textile shops.

Officials said they could not enter the shops as there was hardly any space between the shops. The fire tenders of Imphal West and Imphal West, army and CRPF were pressed into service.

However, no one was injured.

Some of the victims, trapped in the buildings where the fire broke out, were evacuated by the locals and fire fighters using ladders and fire brigade machines.

The exact estimate of loss was yet to be known.
