Junior gymnastic meet begins in Mohali
Mohali, Dec 27 (UNI) The 20th Sub-Junior National Artistic Gymnastics for boys and girls and 17th Senior Rhythmic Gymnastic Championship at the Shivalik Public School Gymnasium here today.
As many as 284 gymnasts, including 131 boys and 41 women from 20 states and union territories are taking part in the five-day competitons. The opening day's programme was devoted to compulsory exercise.
The gymnasts have been divided into three groups for the compulsory exercise. Gujarat, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, Manipur, Chattisgarh, Karnataka and Haryana have been placed in group I. Group II consists of gymnasts from Orissa, Uttranchal, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Punjab. Hot contenders Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Delhi and Tripura are in group III. The group III includes teams which had secured the top positions in the last edition. The compulsory routine for girls will be conducted tomorrow.
Amrik Singh and Hazara Singh have been appointed directors of competiiton.
