Edu should make students smile in their study period: Kalam

Majitar, East Sikkim, Dec 27 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam today called upon educationists to evolve an education system that would retain the smile on the face of the students throughout their study period.

At the outset of his inaugural address at the 14th National Children Science Congress at the campus of the Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT), the President said he was happy to see the smiling faces of the children.

He said, ''smile is a beautiful thing. Children smile when they are in nursery and primary schools. But their smile starts to fade as they go into higher classes. Smile becomes a rare thing when they reach class ten and vanishes totally when they join college.'' But in the real education system, the smile on the face of the students would linger in their entire study period, the President said.
