Chilly weather ahead for Rajasthan

Jaipur, Dec 27 (UNI): Rajasthan is likely to usher in a chilly New Year as temperatures are spiralling downwards accompanied with icy winds and a cloud cover.

Although the sun is bright today, the rains which hit some parts of the state yesterday, has ushered in the cold, damp feeling making people load heavy woollens.

According to weather department, Bharatpur recorded 2.4 mm, Pilani 2 and Jaipur 1 mm rains yesterday. Rains during winter in Rajasthan is called Mawath which is supposed to be good for Rabi crops, especially wheat and gram crops.

The weathermen say the cloudy weather is due to western disturbances and had led to fog, which has resulted in increase of minimum temperatures.

Pilani in Jhunjhunu district recorded 6 degree Celsius and remained the coldest today. The state capital witnessed a fall in temperature mapping 9 degree Celsius today along with Bikaner, Churu and Ganganagar. Barmer recorded 8 degree Celsius, Jaisalmer and Sawai Madhopur 10, Ajmer, Dabok, Udaipur 12, Jodhpur 13, Bundi 14 and Kota, Jhalawar and Rawatbhata 15 degree Celsius.

Due to foggy weather in Delhi, four flights were diverted to Sanganer airport here late last night. Three flights belonged to Spice Jet while the fourth one was of Jet Airways. The flight passengers were sent to Delhi via road later.

The weather department has predicted dry weather for the next 24 hours and dip in temperatures with dispersal of cloud cover.
