CBI files chargesheet in Khairlanji case

Nagpur, Dec 27 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today filed a chargesheet against 11 persons in connection with the massacre of four members of a dalit family by villagers at Khairlanji in Bhandara district of Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.

Official sources said the chargesheet was filed in the court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) in Tumsar in the same district. The chargesheet had been filed under section 302 of the IPC, the sources said. No other details were available.

Surekha Bhotmange (45), daughter Priyanka (18), and sons Roshan (23) and Sudhir (21) were killed by a mob in Khairlanji late on the night of September 30 over a land dispute. There had been violence during protests over the killings at several places in Maharashtra, including Nagpur, Kamptee, Bhandara, Yavatmal and Amravati.
