Cattle smugglers clash with BSF in Karimganj
Silchar, Dec 27 (UNI) One BSF jawan was injured when a group of cattle smugglers along with some local villagers attacked a BSF patrolling party at Bilpara village in Karimganj district, close to international border with Bangladesh.
BSF, Cachar sector, DIG Desraj today said a BSF patrolling party challenged a group of smugglers last night, who were on their way to cross the international border to smuggle out at least 40 cattle to Bangladesh from Indian side.
However, soon after BSF personnel challenged them, the smugglers attacked the security forces with sharp weapons and sticks.
Local villagers also joined the smugglers and started throwing stones at the BSF party. One BSF jawan was injured in the process.
This forced BSF to open fire in the air for self-defence, the DIG said adding the smugglers somehow managed to flee in the darkness of night.
