CAB accepts Dalmiya's resignation
Kolkata, Dec 27 (UNI) The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) working committee today accepted Jagmohan Dalmiya's resignation from the post of CAB president, but deferred dealing with it till the next meeting on January 5.
Talking to media after CAB's working committee meeting, CAB secretary Saradindu Pal said, '' We have accepted Dalmiya's resignation but we will take up the matter only on January 5 meeting. '' He also said within this period the four vice-presidents - Nemai Dutta, Subhas Bose, Rusi Jijibhoy and Asit Ghosh - and the two joint secretaries - himself and Amitabha Banerjee - would help the day to day running of the state association.
He further said whether the CAB would have an election would depend on whether there was a consensus candidate.
However, he said some of the clubs had raised questions regarding certain rules of the CAB which had been referred to its former president Siddhartha Shankar Ray, also a legal expert.
Earlier, Mr Dalmiya after reigning 14 years with an iron fist stepped down from his fiefdom and proposed the name of his mentor BN Dutta as his successor.
In an emotional letter, Mr Dalmiya bid adieu to his CAB colleagues, saying he didn't want the association to be at the receiving end of his ongoing legal tussle with the powers that be in BCCI and hence was stepping aside.
