BJP-Akali leaders discuss poll strategy for Punjab

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) BJP and Akali Dal leaders today discussed the strategy to face the forthcoming Assembly elections in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh Shiromani Akali Dal chief Prakash Singh Badal emerging out of the NDA meeting told mediperrsons that his party had very a ''good understanding'' with BJP and would work together in the elections.

He said he had discussions with BJP General Secretary Arun Jaitley and other leaders to discuss the election strategy.

He also ruled out any problem in reaching a seat sharing accord with the BJP although today's meeting did not discuss on this issue.

Asked for his views on acqusition of agricultural land for industries, he said he was opposed to acquisition of land if the farmers were given pittance and the developers were allowed to make the money. ''We sensed a scandal the day the SEZs are operating, he remarked.

Stressing that he was for growth of industries Mr Badal said that farmers should be allowed enough compensation and also be compensated by way of shares and a portion of developed lands so that they should not feel dipossessed of their lands.

To a question on the BJP's allegation of Muslim appeasement, the said chief Badal said the Sikh religion treated every human being as equal and his group would not have problems.
