Bihar govt failed to revise BPL : Akhilesh

Patna, Dec 27(UNI) Union minister of state for agriculture and food processing Akhilesh Singh today said a large number of people were not getting the benefits of Antyodaya yojna and other such schemes following the Bihar government's failure in revising the below poverty line (BPL) list.

Talking to reporters here, Mr Singh said that the state government should take steps for revision of BPL list. Earlier the number of people living below poverty line in Bihar was 47.80 lakhs while it had gone up to 50.29 lakhs during the last few years, he added.

'' A large of number of eligible persons still do not figure in BPL list due to laxity of officers concerned in discharging their duties'', he lamented.

Mr Singh said that the standard of living of the people in other states had improved following effective implementation of various poverty alleviation schemes while the condition of the poor still continues to remain unchanged in Bihar.
