Burglars strike in suburbs
Chennai, Dec 26 (UNI) Four robberies, including three incidents of housebreaking in which 139 sovereigns of gold ornaments and a cash of Rs 6 lakahs and other valuables were robbed, have been reported here in the last few days.
Police said in one of these burglaries, unidentified miscreants broke open a locked house and made away with 65 sovereigns of gold ornaments, Rs three lakh in cash and other valuables at East Tambaram suburb.
Chandran (55), working as an electrician in the Air Force Station, Tambaram, was away on a tour to Kanniyakumari and other places along with his family members. When they returned home last evening, they found that the house was broken open and a steel almirah ransacked, and the valuables kept in it were stolen, police added.
In another incident, miscreants broke open the locked house of an employee of Air India at Nagalkeni suburb and decamped with 65 sovereigns of gold ornaments, Rs 1.52 lakhs cash and other valuables.
Police said the employee Santhanam and his family were away in Chengalpattu. A neighbour noticed that the house was broken open and informed the matter to him.
Based on a complaint from Santhanam police registered a case and are investigating.
At Ullagaram suburb also burglers broke open a locked house and decamped with nine sovereigns of gold jewels. Police are investigating.
Robbers broke open a locked TASMAC liquor shop at Perungalathur suburb last night and decamped with Rs 1.50 lakh.
When the supervisor of the shop came to open the shop this morning he noticed that it had been burgled and lodged a complaint with the police, who are investigating.
