Tata Pariwar to pacify Singur effect
Kolkata, Dec 24 (UNI) With the growing resentment of the Opposition and a part of the farmers in Singur, Tata Steel has set up a ''Tata Steel Pariwar'' under which every displaced family will become a part of the Tata family.
A Tata Steel spokesperson said here today that the model envisaged employing displaced people with requisite qualifications and training others as well.
''Some will be self-employed in the process. We will monitor every family's income at regular intervals and ensure that the income level goes up after displacement from original land or home,'' he said.
The same model has been implemented in Orissa, where the company is setting up a six million tonnes steel plant at the Kalinganagar Industrial Estate, and had its share of problems.
Tata Steel is not alone. Videocon, which has plans to set up nine Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in various states, including West Bengal, would also give jobs to the displaced people.
Even NASSCOM, a premier trade body, has been discussing an inclusive model for land development with the Centre, where the displaced people would be stakeholders in new projects.
