Saratchand felicitated for winning Akademi
Imphal, Dec 24 (UNI) Literary organisations of Manipur have lauded eminent activist, poet and litterateur Saratchand Thiyam of Manipur one among 23 authors selected for this year's prestigious Sahitya Akademi Awards.
He was chosen for the award for his travelogue 'Nungshibi Greece' in Manipuri published 2002.
The awards would be presented at a function here on February 20.
Other awardees from the North East are Atulananda Goswami for his short story collections 'Cheneh Jorir Ganthi' in Assamese and Katindra Swargiary for his novel 'Sanmwkhangari Lamajwng' in Bodo.
Saratchand Thiyam will be the first recipient of Sahitya Akademi Award in the field of travelogue from Manipur. Born on February 27,1961, he has eight books to his credit.
'Nungshibi Greece' was among the largest selling books in Manipur. It was published in three editions subsequently in 2003 and 2004. The travelogue got the Best Book Award in Manipur State Book Fair organised by the Government of Manipur in 2002.
