Cong urges Govt to punish parties supporting LTTE

Puducherry, Dec 24: AICC General Secretary V Narayanasamy MP today urged the Centre to initiate stringent action against the political parties and organisations supporting the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

Talking to newspersons here, he said the Tamil MPs from Sri Lanka had called on the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and sought the intervention of the Central Government to give protection to the Eelam Tamils.

Mr Narayanasamy said the Government had already intervened in the issue during the tenure of Mr Rajiv Gandhi and alleged that the LTTE which objected to it had assassinated Rajiv Gandhi. LTTE supremo Prabhakaran is wanted by the Indian Government, he added.

He said the External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, had already made it clear that the problems in the island nation was an internal one and the Government will not intervene. Even after this some political parties and organisations were supporting the LTTE, he alleged.

Criticising the AIADMK supremo J Jayalalitha for her comment on the Indo-US nucelar deal, he said the issue was discussed in detail in both the Houses of the Parliament and the initiative would be on the basis of the agreement signed on July 18. There is no deviation in our foreign policy, he added.

Stating that the Puducherry administration should speed up its pace of development, Mr Narayansamy urged for the speedy implementation of the Special Economic Zone(SEZ) and port development, which would ensure jobs to about one lakh youth here.

He took strong exception to a section of people, criticising the Lt Governor stating that he is a stumbling block in implementing several schemes announced by the Cabinet.
