Blueprint for making RGU centre on anvil

Itanagar, Dec 24: A blueprint has been prepared to make Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), a Centre of Excellence that could meet the aspirations of the young people of the state and stop braindrain.

RGU Vice-Chancellor Prof Subhas Chandra Saha said today that the new status has increased the responsibility many-fold.

''The perspective of the University has to be redefined as it would be completely regulated by University Grants Commission and Ministry of Human Resources Development guidelines,'' he said.

On receipt of the conversion notification, the blue print would be given final shape by reviewing the University's existing vision document in tune with the changing time, he said, when reminded of the document.

The first priority would be to introduce state-relevant subjects of Science&Technology, like Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, Bio-technology (B.Tec, M.Tech, M.Phil&PhDs), Agriculture and Hydro-power Engineering besides diversification of the management department and a five-year integrated law course to cater to the requirements of the state while keeping an eye on the global scenario, he said.

The subjects have to be employment and value oriented to help the students contribute towards nation-building and take the Arunachalee society to a 'state of plenty','' he said.

While an advanced research laboratory would be another priority to make students innovative and creative, the requirements for a modern campus would be science laboratories, computers, good library, highly-qualified teachers, adepuate infrastructure, including students' hostels and staff quarters. It would require huge investment, which, he hoped, would flow from UGC and MHRD.

While the RGU would like to review the education scenario of the state for incorporating changes to suit the competitive age, it's diversification has to meet the tremendous change, he remarked.
