BJP charges cadres with poll cry of Hindutva

Lucknow, Dec 24: Pinning hopes on resurgence of the BJP in the northern belt, particularly Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal, the party today crafted its poll cry with a renewed 'Hindutva' card to counter Muslim vote bank politics of the Congress, Left and the Samajwadi Party.

The party also attempted to hijack the Congress pet theme of ''Aam Aadmi'', and said the slogan was only meant for usurping power, not to protect the interest of the common man who stood cheated today in the wake of spiralling prices and host of other anti-people policies.

Rounding up the party's three-day national conclave here, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and his deputy in the NDA regime L K Advani asked the partymen to be fully geared up for the Assembly elections in four states--UP, Uttranchal, Punjab and Manipur-- as an impressive performance would shore up the party's prospects in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls.

Both the leaders were emphatic that the UP polls held the key to regain power at the Centre.

The three-day meet which ended today, passed two crucial resolutions--''Aam Aadmi Ke Saath Viswasghaat'' (Common man betrayed) and UPA Government's Vote Bank Politics, making the twin issues as the poll planks of the BJP.

The party asked the cadre to counter the ''minority appeasement policies'' of the UPA by the pronounced 'Hindutva' agenda which included building of the Ram Temple at Ayodhya, abrogation of Article 370 providing special status to Kashmir and enactment of the Common Civil Code, while projecting the BJP as ''the real saviour'' of the 'Aam Aadmi'.

Mr Advani tried to corner the Centre on the reported non-paper handed over to Pakistan by India on the sensitive Kashmir issue, and warned the ''UPA that nothing should be done contrary to the unanimous resolution passed by Parliament on Kashmir.'' Mr Vajpayee who celebrates his 84th birthday tomorrow, said there was ''a palpable change'' about the BJP among the masses after the municipal election in UP where it had bagged eight out of the 12 mayoral seats in major cities. He said the coming UP polls ''were not only a challenge but an opportunity to charter its course to power in Delhi.''
