Rajnath ratified as BJP President by Natl Council
Lucknow, Dec 23: The National Council of the BJP today ratified Mr Rajnath Singh election as President of the party for a three-year term with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and leaders of oposition in Parliament L K Advani and Jaswant Singh joining party workers in congratulating him on the occassion.
Party's Chief Returning Officer O P Kohli who conducted the organisational elections in the country said there were 15 sets of nomination papers all in support of Mr Singh's candidature. Hence he had declared Mr Singh as the party's President for a full term.
The ratification of a newly elected President by the National Council, comprising of elected representatives, office bearers of the party in states and districts all over the country, is mandatory and was provided in the party's constitution.
Shooting star Jaspal Rana who won three golds and a silver in the recently concluded Asian Games at Doha was honoured by Mr Vajpayee and Mr Advani for his feat.
