Cables burst: Reservation, ticketing affected
Chennai, Dec 23 (UNI) The Computerised Reservation System (CRS) and the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) of the Southern Railway (SR) were severely affected when 55 BSNL cables and 35 Railway cables burst near Central Railway Station here today.
Railway sources said while the Railways replaced the damaged cables this evening, the restoration of the BSNL cables is expected to be completed by tomorrow.
Following this, the UTS was severely affected throughout the Southern Railway network and the CRS at a few places including in and around Chennai.
The authorities had made alternative arrangement to issue manual tickets for the unreserved category of passengers, the sources said adding that the UTS was restored at Chennai Central station by 1230 hrs and at Chennai Egmore by 1700 hrs.
The preparation of the reservation charts for today's trains were severely affected.
The CRS, across the network would be restored one by one by tomorrow morning.
The reservation and ticket counters were heavily crowded due to Christmas and New Year and the cable damage and manual issuance of tickets had caused further trouble for the passengers by consuming major junk of their valuable time in queques.
