'Cadre must make BJP an instrument of credibility'

Lucknow, Dec 22: Launching an outright attack on the ''all-round failures'' of the UPA Government, BJP President Rajnath Singh today outlined his agenda to face the coming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and urged the cadre to make the party an ''instrument of credibility'' in the polity.

Inaugurating the day-long National Executive meeting, he touched upon a host of issues ranging from politics, the economic situation and national security, women empowerment and Singur controversy for which Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee has been on hunger strike for the last 18 days to protest acquisition of fertile agricultural land for Tata's small car project.

Alleging prevalence of ''anarchy'' in Uttar Pradesh -- his home state -- with the mafia having a free run, he said that the Election Commission has a 'big challenge' on hand in holding elections in this major state of the country, since the UPA government was ''unwilling'' to bring the state under President's rule.

''Corruption is the order of the day and governance totally absent. As fair and objective polls can't be held in the state with the Samajwadi Party in power, several political parties, including the BJP, had sought conduct of elections under President's rule,'' Mr Singh said, adding that ''since the UPA is not inclined to oblige,'' the responsibility on the EC had increased and ''it had to hold elections toughly as it had done it in politically-sensitive states,'' in an oblique reference to Bihar.
