Rahul interviews candidates for UP assembly polls

Sultanpur (UP), Dec 22: Though Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi has so far not been given any responsibility by the Congress high command, he has started working on an important aspect for the coming assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh by interviewing probable candidates.

Congress leaders claimed that with Rahul monitoring the entire process, people with no grassroots contact are likely to be ignored by the AICC.

Most of the candidates have to go through the 'acid test' of being interviewed by Rahul himself in the National Capital.

Rahul is interviewing probable with a record of past several assembly elections. The number of voters, the caste equation and the strength of the Opposition in their constituencies were his general queries to the aspirants.

In the past,the excercise of the ticket selection was done by Ms Gandhi but the new arrangement has indications of the bigger role for Rahul in the party affairs, especially in UP which is going to polls in a couple of month. There has been a loud demand from UP congressmen to give Rahul some important assignment and his assuming the charge of AICC General Secreatry is being speculated since long.

Congress sources said that 'interviews' by Rahul Gandhi would be continued till the assembly polls.
