Warne to quit tests after Ashes

SYDNEY, Dec 21 (Reuters) Australia leg-spinner Shane Warne today said he would retire from international cricket after the final Ashes test against England starting in Sydney on January 2.

Warne, 37, told a packed news conference at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, broadcast live on Australian television, that he was quitting after helping Australia regain the Ashes they lost last year.

''I'm going to retire at the end of the Sydney test match,'' he said. ''It's been an unbelievable journey...but my time is now.'' REUTERS PKS RN0725
