Vajpai selected for journalism award

Bhopal, Dec 21 (UNI) Senior journalist Bhagwatidhar Vajpai has been selected for the Madhya Pradesh Government's Manikchand Vajpayee national journalism award 2006, it was officially announced today.

The award carries Rs one lakh in cash and a citation.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced institution of the annual award in July this year at the silver jubilee function of Hindi daily Swadesh, of which Mr Vajpayee was the editor for a long time. The award would be presented here on December 27, the first death anniversary of Mr Vajpayee.

The selection committee, comprising senior journalists Rajendra Sharma, Rajiv Mohan Gupta, Awadh Anand, Deshdeep Saksena and Public Relations Commissioner Manoj Shrivastava, met here yesterday and selected Mr Vajpai for the award.

Mr Vajpai started his journalism career with Daily Swadesh in 1952. He was also associated with 'Yugdharma' for a long time.
