Srinagar, Dec 21 (UNI) An American band -- ShantiSalaam -- performed here last evening to promote resolution of all conflicts between India and Pakistan through arts and return of peace in the strife-torn Jammu and Kashmir.
The group, on an eight-week arts and public education tour to India and Pakistan, intends to explore intercultural tolerance in both the countries through its music.
Besides conscious performance, public speaking engagements and street diplomacy, the group would facilitate interactive workshops building inter-personal solutions to communitarian violence by promoting mutual understanding across the borders.
The band played songs castigating the US aggression against Iraq and denouncing United States President George W Bush's policy, drawing huge applause from the audience.
The group, including Shahid Buttar, Hawah (Rajeev K Kasat) and Vishal Kanwar, left for Pakistan today after a three-day stay in the Valley during which it interacted with a cross section of people.
