Sharda Jain, five others, three cops convicted in Atmaram's case
New Delhi, Dec 21 (UNI) A city court today held former Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) councillor Sharda Jain guilty of killing her colleague Atmaram Gupta, at Chajjupur village of Ghaziabad district on August 24, 2002.
Sharda Jain, Rajkumar and Roshan Pradhan were convicted of criminal conspiracy and destroying evidence. Besides Nirvikar, Pushpendra and Rajendra were also convicted for being accomplice to the crime.
Additional Sessions Judge of Rohini Fast Track Court, Bharat Parashar also held three Uttar Pradesh constables Shirpal, Satyendra and Rakesh Kumar guilty of destroying evidences. They had allegedly thrown into water the dead body of Atmaram.
According to prosecution, the motive behind the murder was jealousy as Sharda Jain suspected Atmaram (50) councillor from Tri Nagar, to be getting too close to another woman councillor.
Atmaram was shot dead after a Congress rally in Ferozeshah Kotla grounds, from where he was allegedly whisked away by another councillor.
The prosecution presented 76 witnesses in the court.
