Rupee opens high at 44.76/78 against the USD

Mumbai, Dec 21: The Rupee today opened higher by four paise and was quoted at 44.76/78 per US dollar against yesterday's close of 44.72/73 per USD, dealers said.

Later, the rupee rose by two paise and touched 44.70/71 on account of short-covering by local operators. The current price is again quoted low at 44.73/74, registering a modest loss of three paise from it's last close, due to sustained heavy selling pressure on the dollar, resorted to by foreign bankers and local investors, dealers added.
