Kuchipudi dance fest to begin tomorrow

Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, Dec 21 (UNI) The National Kuchipudi Dance Festival will begin tomorrow at Siddhendra Kalapeetham at Kuchipudi, about 25 km west of Machilipatnam Port Town, Sri Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University Vice-Chancellor A Manjulatha has said.

The festival will also feature dance forms like Odissi, Sattriya and Kathak in which prominent dancers will take part.

The event will offer a single platform to showcase various dance forms in India, Ms Manjulatha said here.

Prominent Kuchipudi Dancers like Manjubhargavi, Shobha Naidu and Dr Vedantam will be peforming at the five-day-long festival ending on Decebmer 26.

About 300 artistes will showcase their talents at the event which features seminars and demonstrative lectures among others.

Beginning this year, the university will present awards to eminent artistes at the festival.

Dr Vempati Chinasatyam, Dr Vedantam and Mr Satyanarayana Sarma will be the first recipients of the awards which would be presented tomorrow by Andhra Pradesh Governor Rameshwar Thakur.
