New born baby found in dustbin

Hyderabad, Dec 21: A new born female baby found in a dustbin created flutter at Moosapet area in the city yesterday.

One Meenakshi, a resident of the area heard the cries of a baby during the wee hours. When she looked around, she found the new-born in a dustbin. She cut the umbulical cord as it was not snapped by the mother who abandoned her.

After informing the police, Ms Meenakshi told them that she would herself adopt the orphaned child. Already she was the mother of two daughters.

She informed the police that she was not worried about her financial condition. She could not bear to leave a child in a dustbin.

Police were perplexed as many others, apart from Ms Meenakshi, came to adopt the child. The police initially said they would give the new-born child to Ms Meenakshi as she was the first to come forward to take care of the child.

However, they did not know what to do when several other child-less couples approached them with an offer to adopt the child.

Police decided to give the child to Niloufer Hospital and leave the matter to the Child Welfare.
