Dr Ambedkar's statue vandalised in Mainpuri

Mainpuri, Dec 21 (UNI) Tension gripped the Mainpuri district today after unidentified miscreants desecrated the statue of Dalit icon Dr B R Ambedkar.

Police said the incident took place in Makhanpur village under Karhal police station area.

The incident agitated the villagers, who could be pacified only after the police assured them that the damaged statue would be replaces by a new one.

A case was registered. However, no arrest has been made so far.

Earlier, similar incidents had taken place in Kanpur and Allahabad.
