Chandy meets Sonia

New Delhi, Dec 21 (UNI) Former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today met Congress President Sonia Gandhi in the context of differences of opinion in the state party unit on the issue of reconstitution of the Pradesh Congress Committee.

The meeting assumes special significance in the context of party's senior leader A C Jose demanding revamping of the KPCC through the election process.

Mr Chandy also held discussions with Ms Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel, who is in charge of party affairs in Kerala, and Union Defence Minister A K Antony and Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi.

Mr Chandy told mediapersons later that he had discussed organisational issues with the party President.

He indicated that organisational elections in the state would be possible along with such an exercise to be undertaken at the national level.

This means that the KPCC would be revamped through nomination soon.

Due to intense groupism in the Kerala Congress, organisational elections were not held in the state during the past 14 years.

Replying to a question, Mr Chandy, who is also Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, said there was no groupism in the state unit of the party at present.
