Building workers hold demo

Chennai, Dec 21 (UNI) Members of the AITUC-affiliated Tamil Nadu Building Workers Association staged a demonstration here today demanding among other things change the Manual Labour Welfare Board's 'anti-labour attitude,' expeditious clearance of board members' applicatons for concessions and speedy disbursal of aid.

The demonstration also condemned the board's 'lethargic' attitude in rejecting the pension applications of over 5,200 building workers who had crossed 60 years of age and sought Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's intervention in the issue for rendering justice to the affected workers.

State AITUC Secretary T R S Mani said similar demonstrations were also held in all the district headquarters of the state today.
