US state governor adopts girl child from Nadiad
Nadiad, Dec 20 (UNI) Governor of the US state Utah Jon M Huntsman Jr and his wife Mary Kaye yesterday visited ''Matru chhaya'' orphanage here and adopted a one-year-old child Kanak and later rechristened her ''Asha Bharati.'' With this adoption, Mr Huntsman would be having six children, including a child adopted earlier in China.
He also presented a donation of 10,000 dollars for the ashram.
Recalling Mahatma Gandhi and his ahimsa philosophy, he said that it is today more relevant than ever before.
The orphanage is run by Mr N E Fernandes and Dr Pushpa Kaul, who were present on the occasion.
Mr Huntsman, who is a Republican, was elected governor in November 2004. A year ago when Kanak was born, Mr Huntsman had expressed his desire to adopt the baby and had written a letter to the orphanage.
