Two Naval ships call on Mangalore port

Mangalore, Dec 20 (UNI) Two Indian naval ships --INS Subhadra and INS Nirdeshak -- arrived at the New Mangalore Port yesterday as part of the Navy week celebrations, providing a chance to Mangaloreans to have a glimpse of the ships.

Both the ships would stay at the port for a day and the general public were allowed to visit the ships. While INS Subhadra was an offshore patrol vessel, INS Nirdeshak was a hydrographic survey vessel. Both were based at INS Kadamba, India's largest naval base at Karwar.

According to port sources, though the Navy intended to keep the ships open for public for two days, it had been restricted to one day in view of security concerns. The Navy had also made arrangements for vehicles to ferry visitors from the main gate of the port to the ships. The visitors also had the opportunity to witness the performance of the Naval band at town hall here last evening.
