TN CM playing with Dam issue: Swamy
Chennai, Dec 20 (UNI) Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy said here today the Tamil Nadu Government is playing truant with the people of the state on the Mullaperiyar Dam issue.
In a statement here, Dr Swamy said the decision of the DMK Government to go back to the Supreme Court in the Mullaperiyar Dam issue was 'at best an insincere but delaying tactic and at the worst a ploy to make the Supreme Court modify its earlier order to make it more favourable to Kerala.' 'The DMK is, thus, in sinister conspiracy with the CPM in Kerala,' he alleged.
He said Mr Karunanidhi, instead of going back to the Supreme Court, should act in a manner similar to the NLC issue when he 'threatened' to withdraw from the UPA Government if it was privatised.
If he could do so for 3,000 NLC workers, he could more easily do for three lakh farmers and their families belonging to the five Southern districts of Tamil Nadu.
Dr Swamy said if Mr Karunanidhi did not implement the Supreme Court order to raise the water level of the Mullaperiyar Dam to 142 feet by January 14, next, he would launch a farmers' agitation in the state.
