RBI Governor hails fiscal management in Bengal

Kolkata, Dec 20 (UNI) Reserve Bank of India(RBI) Governor Y V Reddy today complimented the fiscal management of the West Bengal government and promised more credit infolw for SSI sector.

Speaking to newsmen here after meeting Chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacherjee at the state Secretariat, Dr Reddy said he was highly impressed with the manner fiscal discipline was being maintained in the state during the past couple of years and unlike many other states, no overdraft had been sought by the Finance department.

Describing it as a "dramatic improvement", Dr Reddy said his meeting with Mr Bhattacherjee was very cordial.

" The Chief Minister has requested me to look into the possibility of increasing the quantum of credit inflow for various self-help groups of the women in the state following their creditable performance, " the RBI Governor said and assured of looking into the issue in a positive frame of mind.

Dr Reddy arrived here this morning to hold a series of meetings with senior RBI and other Bank officials.
