Punjab to have eight more Railways overbridges

Amritsar, Dec 20 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here today announced that eight more Railways Overbridges (ROBs) would be constructed in Punjab following the Indian Railways nod to the projects.

These ROBs would be constructed at Bhatinda, Malot, Abohar, Mansa, Maur Mandi and Lehragaga, the Prime Minister said at a public rally here, while laying the foundation stones of four other projects.

He said the Railways have also decided to develop Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana railway stations in view of the increasing needs in these cities inhabitating huge migratory population.

A Logistics Park was also being planned by the Railways near the Railway Freight Corridor at Ludhiana, which would have a major transport centre and enable Ludhiana to become the premier transport hub in the Northern India, Dr Singh added.

He said the Amritsar Airport was being modernised at a cost of Rs 80 crore. As far as roads were concerned, he said, work was under way on the national highways in the state through the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

Among the important highways being widened and improved included Delhi-Chandigarh, Ludhiana-Chandigarh, Panipat-Jalandhar, Chandigarh-Kiratpur Sahib, Amritsar-Wagah, Amritsar-Pathankot, Amritsar-Jalandhar and Ludhiana-Moga and Moga-Talwandi Sabo.
