New dream run route for Mumbai Marathon 07 unveiled

Mumbai, Dec 20 (UNI) Two of the pillars of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon (SCMM), Traffic Police and the BMC, came together on today to unveil the brand new route for the Dream Run terminating gate number three of the Azad Maidan near Metro Adlabs.

The announcement came at a press conference at the Hilton Towers with the new route and Charity being in focus.

Of the role of the traffic police in January 21 event, Jt. Police Commissioner of Police for Traffic Satish Mathur said, ''We have been a part of the event right from its inception but at first we had doubts over the ability to create the kind of movement that was expected of it. Over the years, it has grown by leaps and bounds making it an extraordinary success''.

According to Additional Municipal Commissioner R A Rajeev, ''The marathon has got the entire city involved and now it is not just this city but even around the country and the world. More people are out on the roads supporting the marathon and therefore, it isn't just our job but also our responsibility''.

Perhaps, one of the staunchest supporters of the Dream Run is sportsperson and movie star Rahul Bose. Having run for Charity right from the inception of the marathon, Rahul has decided to set up his own foundation.

Speaking of the importance of charity he said, ''Due to the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon, a lot of people have become aware of the causes and ways to generate funds for the same. What is crucial is that people realize that we need the money to be raised and they are now willing to do something about it''.

The panelists hinted on the spirit of Mumbai that binds the citizens of the city during the course of the marathon. Another of the Dream Runners Tara Sharma described it as, ''It is a huge leveler. But most of all it is a metaphor for healthy competition.'' UNI GS SD PDS GC2008
