MLAs to pay for property damage in AP House

Hyderabad, Dec 20 (UNI) Taking a cue from West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker K R Suresh Reddy today said the damage caused to properties of the House would be recovered from the legislative members concerned.

Some of TDP members, who were suspended from the service of the House on the morning session for disrupting the proceedings, indulged in a scuffle with marshals who came to remove them and broke some ear phones. They threw the broken ear-phones away in anger.

When Congress members pointed out to the Speaker that the recovery could be made from Opposition members under the existing rules, the Speaker said he would take steps for the recovery from those responsible for the damage.

However, the Speaker was considerate and urged the State government to withdraw the suspension and allow the suspended members to participate in the proceedings. Later, Finance and Legislative Affairs Minister K Rosaiah moved another motion withdrawing the suspension.

The TDP members, who were demanding the resignation of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on the assigned lands issue, however, chose not to participate in the proceedings and staged a 'dharna' at the Mahatma Gandhi statue inside the Assembly premises.
