MCD polls to be held on time: Congress
New Delhi, Dec 20 (UNI) Dismissing the BJP's claim that the Congress was trying to delay the forthcoming MCD polls, the ruling party today said the elections would be held as per schedule.
A statement to this effect was issued by the Congress after a meeting, held here under the chairmanship of All Indian congress Committee General Secretary Ashok Gehlot which Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit participated along with members of her Cabinet and Congress MPs from Delhi, sources in the party said.
The meeting, which was also attended by several members of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee led by DPCC chief Rambabu Sharma, was called in wake of charges by the BJP that Congress was trying to delay MCD polls, scheduled to be held by February next year. The opposition charges came after the law Ministry in a letter to the Delhi chief electoral officer sought certain clarifications on the report of the delimitation committee set up by Delhi Lt Governor B L Joshi.
The report of the three-member committee, set up by the Lt Governor under the chairmanship of Delhi election commissioner, had been forwarded by the Lt Governor to the Union Urban Development Ministry which in turn forwarded it to the Law Ministry.
