Major arms haul in Kashmir
Srinagar, Dec 20 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Army have seized a large cache of arms and ammunition, including two RPG rockets and 21 kg of deadly explosives, from different parts of the Valley during the past 24 hours.
Acting on specific information, a police party seized two RPG rockets along with two boosters from a militant hideout in Zabarwan Hills near Dachigam on the city outskirts today.
The Army's 190 Field Regiment lodged a report with the police at Kralapora that their unit had seized an AK 56 rifle, two magazines, 56 rounds, eight UBGL grenades and three Chinese grenades from the forest area of Kachama Meelyal.
The Army also seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including 21 kg of deadly explosives and hand grenades, in the central Kashmir district of Badgam.
A defence spokesman said troops, on a specific information, launched a search operation at Parhas village in Badgam district yesterday.
During the search, he said one of the Army columns struck upon war-like stores hidden in a gunny bag.
The spokesman said the bag contained 20 kg black colour explosive powder, 700 gm red and 300 gm white colour explosive powder besides two AK magazines, eight AK ammunition rounds, seven pistol ammunition rounds and five hand grenades.
With the recovery of such a huge war-like stores, he claimed that the militants have received a setback in carrying out their anti-national activities.
